NYS Championship/National Dragster Championship Champs Crowned

September 11, 2016 -  Today's event featured our annual NYS Championsip/National Dragster Challenge race which was an 1/8th event event due to the rains that blew throught the area Saturday night. Once we got underway, we had a great day of racing with some extremely tight final round finishes. Here's how the final rounds shook out and the boxscores below.

Jack Vault Jr. - Super Pro Winner

Super Pro
The Super Pro final round came down to Jack Vault in his Ford powered dragster up against Jack Reome in his Chevy powered dragster. Reome was going for back to back wins, but he leaned on the tree too hard and came up with a -.044 red light wasting his right on the dial 4.83 at 140.60 mph effort. Vault had a .012 light and ran it out to a 4.550 at 151.00 mph run on his 4.56 dial to grab the "Wally" and the $1,000 winning payout. Don Kiekel and Pete Winfrey lasted until the semis.

Steve Doss - Pro Winner

Pro
In what will go down as one of the best ND Challenge Pro final rounds in recent memory, Steve Doss in his Monte Carlo and Mark Dobie in his Nova faced off in a titanic battle for the win. Steve was dialed in at 6.32 and Mark was in at a 6.46. At the green both cars reached for the stratosphere with huge wheelstands easily clearing the 60 foot timers. Steve was able to capture the win with his.031-initiated, dial-in matching 6.468 at 100.43 mph pass. Mark was right along side of Steve at the stripe, but had to settle for the runner-up spot with his .065- initiated, 6.327 at 106.62 mph effort. A great race by two of the classes finest. Another one of the ESTA's winningest drivers Anthony Zangari lost in the semis.

Ron Dean - Pro MX & Bike/Sled Trophy Winner

Pro MX
Ron Dean won the Pro MX final on his Ski-doo over John Kufhta on his Polaris. Ron ran right on his 6.20 dial with a .078-initiated, 6.207 at 104.89 mph pass. John had a great .004 light and probably should have won it, but his sled could not match his 6.53 dial in and he had to settle for the runner-up spot with a 6.74 at 95.52 mph effort. Cory Bingel and Lisa Phelps were the semifinalists.

Mike Halsey - Street Money Winner

Street Money
Mike Halsey won the Street Money "Wally" today driving his '77 Nova after Tyler Bedell fouled in his '79 Malibu wagon. Mike had a .089 reaction time and ran a 7.66 at 89.29 mph on his 7.69. Tyler was dialed at 8.85, but left just a tad too soon with a -.007 red and shut off. Todd Minerd lasted until the semis.

Mark Dobie - Modified Winner

Modified
After having to settle for the runner-up in Pro, Mark Dobie scored the win in Modified after Doral Short fouled in his '95 Mustang. Mark was dialed in at 6.34 and ran a 6.329 at 106.89 mph for the win. Doral was in at 7.55, but lit the red bulb with a -.106 and shut off. Don Austin and Chuck White were the semifinalists.

Steve English - Street Trophy Winner

Street Trophy
Steve English won Street Trophy in his all-conquering '82 Cutlass stopping Tyler Bedell who had to settle for his second runner up effort of the day. Steve had .115 light and ran an 8.008 at 87.53 mph on his 8.02 dial. Tyler had the better light with his .068, but he ran under his 8.89 dial with an 8.862 at 74.87 mph pass. Joey Santaro was the semifinalist.

Bike/Sled Trophy
Ron Dean picked up another "Wally" when he won the Bike/Sled Trophy class defeating Keith Miller who was on his '04 Suzuki. Ron had a great .037 light and ran a 6.205 at 106.83 mph on his 6.19 dial. Keith had a .119 light and ran a 5.390 at 127.08 mph on his 5.35 dial-in pass. Derek Eastman was the semifinalist.

Abby Hacker - Jr. Dragster Winner

Jr. Dragster

Jr. Dragster racing saw Abby Hacker stop Jenna Lipke in the final round. Abby had a .060 light and won with a 7.959 at 80.53 mph run on her 7.92 dial-in. Jenna made it close with her .109 initiated 7.983 at 81.40 mph running right on her 7.98 dial-in. Jimmy O'Toole was the semifinalist.

The points chase action will get the day off next week as some of the racers will be going to Lebanon Valley for the Bracket Finals. We'll be open Sunday with a Test and Tune event. Congratulations to all the winners today and good luck to Team ESTA.
