Reome, Zegarelli, Bingel Score Pro Wins as E.T. Racing Resumes
August 28 - A warm, humid day greeted racers as we returned to our Summit Racing E.T. Racing Series schedule and the end of summer nears. Here's how the final rounds shook out and the boxscores below.
Super Pro
We hosted our Super Pro Showdown today which paid a guaranteed $1,500 to win along with the coveted "Tree" type trophy. The final round came down to Jack Reome and Jordan Reader, both driving Chevy powered dragsters. Jack was dialed in at 7.72 and Jordan at 8.08 and at the tree Jordan held a .002 to .014 advantage, but Jack ran right on his dial with a 7.726 at 170.50 mph to collect the win. Jordan ran an 8.102 at 161.80 mph to take the runner up spot, a great effort considering the day before at our time trial day, Jordan had all kinds of mechanical issues that apparently he got resolved. Scott Drake lost in the semis.
Pro
Anthony Zegarelli in his '98 Camaro won the Pro final round defeating Jim Schmidbauer who was in his '70 Nova. Anthony had a decent .052 light and ran a 10.459 at 129.69 mph on his 10.43 dial to force Jim who had a .067 light to run under his 10.61 prediction with a very close 10.608 at 122.61 mph runner up effort. Myles Higby lasted until the semis.
Pro MX
Our own Cory Bingel is getting a handle on his new '16 Suzuki drag bike by clicking off some consistent low 8 second passes. Cory stopped perennial late rounder Ron Dean on his '97 Ski-doo today in a very close Pro MX final round. Cory was dialed in at an 8.33 and put together a .069-initiated 8.353 at 149.04 mph pass to drive around Ron's .066-initiated 10.171 at 123.64 mph runner up effort. Ron was dialed in at 10.14. Dennis Boston and Bob Salerno were the semifinalists.
Street Money
Todd Minerd drove his '80 Pinto Wagon to the Street Money win defeating Steve English who red lighted in his '82 Cutlass. Todd was dialed in at 15.84 and nailed it with a perfect 15.840 at 83.48 mph. Steve settled for the runner-up spot with a 12.94 at 94.53 mph run on his 12.81 dial. Howard Roberts was the semifinalist.
Modified
Becca Searles in her '86 Mustang and Myles Higby in his '69 Dart met up in yet another Modified final round today with Becca getting the win this week. Becca had a telepathic .006 reaction and ran an 11.046 at 119.96 mph on her 11.05 dial, while Myles had a very good .029 light, but ran further under his dial-in of 10.19 with a 10.174 at 131.56 mph. Gene Hutchings was the semifinalist.
Street Trophy
Steven Seeleman Jr. was the benefactor of another red light start by Steve English in the Street Trophy final round and took the win in his '89 Firebird. Steve was .257 at the tree and ran under his 14.13 dial with a 13.95 at 95.17 mph pass. Steve just missed it with a -.008 red and wasted his 12.84 at 106.65 mph run on his 12.78 prediction. Adam Carlson and Brian Mahler made it to the semifinal round.
Bike/Sled Trophy
It was Brian Moulton on his '76 Kawasaki taking out Ron Dean on his Ski-doo in the Bike/Sled Trophy final round. In yet another very close race, Brian got the win light with a .035 light and ran a solid 10.034 at 120.98 mph on his 10.00 dial-in. Ron ran right on his 10.17 with a 10.171 at 123.63 mph, but his .106 reaction time forced him to have to settle for his second runner-up finish of the day. John Kufhta was the lone semifinalist.
Jr. Dragster Challenge
We held the NHRA Jr. Dragster Challenge today with the highly sought after "Jr. Wally" trophies up for grabs. In our normal combined class it was Paige Montgomery driving around Natalie Musolino in the final round with her .084-initiated, 7.954 at 80.90 mph run on her 7.94 dial to score the win. Natalie was right alongside her losing with a .089 r.t. and running a 9.014 at 70.54 mph on her 8.98 dial in for the runner-up spot. Abby Hacker and Alexis Collins were the semifinalists.
Jr. Dragster "A"
We split the kids up into two age groups in the afternoon and in the Jr. "A" class(13-17) it was Abby Hacker taking the win over Ron Klein Jr. Both drivers were dialed in at 7.90 and at the initial hit it was Abby with a comfortable .036 to .094 advantage and she won it with a 7.913 at 81.48 mph, while Ron had to settle for the runner-up spot with a 7.907 at 81.79 mph effort. Paige Montgomery and Jimmy O'Toole were the semifinalists.
Jr. Dragster "B"
Jr. Dragster "B" (7-12) action saw Daniel Thorpe, who for this race was being tuned by former Jr. Dragster driver Tyler Bedell, get the win when he stopped Kimberlee Snell. Danny had a large starting line advantage, .071 to .250 and got the win by running an 8.898 at 73.67 mph on his 8.90 dial-in. Kimberlee ran further under her 9.43 dial with a 9.399 at 68.20 mph runner-up effort. Alexis Collins was the semifinalist.
That's how the racing action went on this miserably hot and muggy afternoon. Thanks to all that attended and raced and thanks to my crew for hanging in there and dealing with these conditions. We'll see you next week when we host the NHRA King of the Track Race pitting our number 1 points racers against each other for a "Wally" and bragging rights. Also on the ticket is the Affordable Carpet Street Shootout which will pay at least $1,000 to win.
