Summit E.T. Racing Series - August 7th

Al & AJ Meier Celebrate August 8 Wins

Perfection in Tom Belvick's Second-Straight Super Pro Win

August 7 - Near-perfect weather greeted racers for a mid-season E.T. Series event which included our annual charity fund-raising Girl-Go-Racing event. The weather may have been near-perfect, but perfection was posted in the Super Pro final by Tom Belvick and in the Meier family racing camp when the father/son team of Al and AJ Meier scored wins in Street Money and Pro respectively.  Here's how the final rounds shook out and the boxscores below.

Super Pro final

Super Pro
An .028 package will win many rounds in Super Pro racing, but unfortunately for Tom Doig even a .001 package wouldn't have been good enough on Sunday as Tom Belvick laid down a perfect run in their final round match and notched his second-straight Super Pro win. Tom Doig got the show started with a decent .025 reaction time in his '69 Plymouth, but Tom Belvick started his rundown with a .0008 reaction time and crossed the stripe with a 7.850 at 162.55 mph, dead-on his 7.85 dial-in. Mr. Doig ran .003 off his 8.76 dial for a stout run, but had to settle for the runner-up spot to his long-time friend. Kris Larsen wheeled his way to the lone semifinal finish.

A.J. Meier - Pro Winner

A.J. Meier got the Pro win over Steve Doss who had to settle for his second-straight Pro runner-up finish. A.J.'s .030 to .042 starting line advantage bought him just enough real estate at the top end to hold off Steve's .021-over 10.401 at 128.18 mph runner-up pass. A.J. was right there on his dial-in as well as his clicked off a solid 10.664 at 122.69 mph pass on his 10.64 dial-in. Myles Higby continued his deep runs in his '69 "Poison Ivy" Dodge Dart with a semifinal finish.

Dennis Boston - Pro MX Winner

Pro MX
Pro MX saw Dennis Boston have an easy time in his final round match against Keith Miller when Keith's 04 Suzuki broke on the line. Dennis lifted at the top end and coasted to an off-throttle 9.606 at 97.83 mph pass on his 8.80 dial. Keith was dialed in at 8.58, but the blistering fast, top end finish never materialized when mechanical gremlins reared its head on the line. Bob Salerno was the lone semifinalist on his Ski-doo Rev.

Al Meier - Street Money Winner

Street Money
Al Meier completed the Meier Family racing, ESTA Winner Circle reunion by defeating Jake Lipke in a double breakout Street Money final. Al took his .048 to .067 starting line advantage and parlayed that into a winning 11.582 at 112.85 mph pass on his 11.59 dial-in to park his beautiful '67 Chevelle in the Winner Circle with A.J.s equally impressive '69 Nova. Jake wheeled his '70 Chevelle to a 11.822 at 110.62 mph run on his 11.89 dial and settled for the runner-up purse. Todd Minerd was the lone semifinalist.

Jim Giordano - Modified Winner

Jim Giordano won the holeshot and final in his Modified win over Myles Higby. Myles got things started first when he launched his '69 Dart to a .093-initiated, 10.102 at 131.89 mph pass (10.08 dial), but Jim's quicker .062 light was enough to drive around Myles for the win. Jim posted a 10.033 at 130.77 mph run on his 10.00 dial-in in his winning effort. David Miller was the semifinalist.

Street Trophy
In Street Trophy Steve English returned to the winner circle with a red-light win over Brian Mahler. Dialed in at a 15.85, Brian went -.066 red in his '05 Pontiac handing the win over to Steve who had his '82 Cutlass dialed-in at a 12.68. Both drivers ran off-the-throttle passes when Brian's foul light glowed. Kurt Hagen and Jim Pipines were the semifinalists.

Matt Luke - Bike/Sled Trophy Winner

Bike/Sled Trophy
Matt Luke continued his ESTA Winner Circle visits when he scored a red-light win over Lisa Phelps who was piloting her '99 Ski-doo. Lisa didn't miss the tree by that much, but her -.006 foul start was enough to end any chance for the win. Lisa ran it out to a 10.837 e.t. on her 10.60 dial-in, while Matt had a free run and wheeled it out to a 8.971 at 148.05 mph run on his 8.98 dial. Bob Salerno and Robert Williams scored semifinal finishes.

Daniel Thorpe - Jr. Dragster Winner

Jr. Dragster
Daniel Thorpe won both ends of the track in his Jr. Dragster win over  Abby Hacker. Daniel got the head start and posted a .058 r.t. and ran a solid 8.978 at 72.57 mph run on his 8.96 dial for the win. Abby missed the tree today with her .116 light and ran a .040-over 8.040 at 79.22 mph pass in her runner-up effort. Jimmy O'Toole was the lone semifinalist.

Marietta Derfuss - Girls-Go-Racing Winner

Marietta Derfuss scored the win over Morgan Bunal in our annual charity event. Marietta's .053 to .147 starting line advantage forced Morgan into a 12.550 breakout pass on her 12.58 dial-in in effort to make up for the R.T. deficit. Marietta ran a solid 12.687 at 106.64 mph pass on her 12.65 dial to score the win. Marietta also went .004 on the tree in her semifinal win over Heather Scheirer who was piloting her dragster.
