September 15 - With the days getting shorter, and the addition of our Annual Stock/Super Stock Challenge coupled with the NYS Championships/National Dragster Challenge, we were only able to complete a portion of our events before we had to call it a day due to darkness. Due to next weekend's Bracket Finals, we will wrap up the remaining classes at the September 29th event.
Ken Bassett scored the Stock/Super Stock win over Sam Capizzi when he piloted his '69 Camaro to a .507-initiated 9.903 at 127.17 mph pass on his 9.89 dial-in to take the win light. Sam. driving his '73 Dodge was first to leave with a 13.35 dial-in. His .541 reaction opened the door for Kenny at the start and his 13.398 at 90.01 mph run closed the door and he settled for the runner-up finish. Billy Baker was the semifinalist.
September 29 - Well after a two week wait we had a beautiful day today to finish the Annual NYS Championships/National Dragster Challenge race. And while the prize money was split up a few weeks ago, there was plenty excitement left for today with the "Wally's" on the line for the winners. Here's how it went down.
Steve Doss continues to have a great year in his first full season of racing a dragster and he brought home the Super Pro win by stopping one of the toughest in the class Vince Musolino. Steve held a slight .518 to .520 starting line advantage and won with a 7.579 at 171.70 mph run on his 7.56 dial, while Vince had to settle for the runner-up spot with a 7.099 at 185.85 mph pass on his 7.07 prediction. Chuck Fish and Tim Roberts were the semifinalists.
In Pro it was Bob Mayers in his Woodcrest Golf Club sponsored Chevy powered Roadster hoisting the "Wally" after he stopped A.J. Meier who was in his '69 Nova. A.J. was off first with his 10.91 to 9.34 handicap headstart, but Bob held a .516 to.561 r.t. advantage and drove right by with a winning 9.397 at 139.78 mph while A.J. runner upped with a 10.930 at 120.31mph effort. Peter DeSalvo drove a great race making it all the way to the semi's in his bone stock '01 Ford Ranger narrowly fouling out to A.J. with a.497 bulb.
Pro MX racing saw young Gary Wilson III on his '03 Ski-Doo match up against veteran campaigner David Ashby on his '90 Kawasaki. Both riders had dismal lights, but Gary's .617 was better than David's .661 and he scored the win with an 11.851 at 104.63 mph run on his 11.80 dial, while David ran under his 13.72 dial with a 13.576 at 93.95 mph pass. Ryan Yarah was the semifinalist.
Jessica DeSiato has been running Street Money for a few years now in her '85 Camaro and she picked a great time to score her first win, stopping multi-winning Steve English who was driving his familiar '82 Cutlass. Just like the Pro MX final neither driver had r.t.'s to brag about, but Jess was able to win with her .659-initiated 13.531 at 97.99 mph on her 13.51 dial in, while Steve had to settle for the runner-up spot with his .663-initiated, 12.727 at 104.15 mph run on his 12.74 dial in. Kurt Hagen was the semifinalist.
The Modified final round came down to Justin Hardman in his Camaro against Jim Bouyea who was in his Chevelle. Justin had a huge reaction time advantage .562 to .698, but he couldn't kill enough e.t. and broke out with an 11.489 at 100.02 mph on his 11.65 dial. Jim ran an 11.08 at 121.28 mph on his 10.99 dial in to grab the win. Don Austin was the semifinalist.
Steve English took the Street Trophy win when Todd Minerd lit the red light in his Pinto, handing the win over to Steve. Steve remained sharp at the tree and cut a nice .524 light on his way to a nice pass of 12.782 at 106.10 mph on his 12.77 dial. Todd ran it out to a 15.444 at 84.28 mph run on his 15.23 dial. Nate Powers and Rich Vose were the semifinaists.
Bike/Sled Trophy was won by Chrissy Klein in an extremely tight final round over Kevin Wuest on his Ski-doo. With bothe racers dialed in at a 10.03, this heads-up final was nearly a dead heat at the start with Chrissy taking a slim .573 to .577 starting line advantage. Chrissy crossed the stripe first with a 10.086 at 119.40 mph pass to Kevin's 10.093 at 121.94 mph run and scored the win. Ryan Yarah and Ryan Orizino were the semifinalists.
We also had a runoff for a "Wally" between the winner of Bike/Sled Trophy and Street Trophy. This one was the same race as last year only this time Steve English won it with a 12.745 at 103.41 mph run on his 12.75 dial in. Chrissy Klein ran just a little further under with a 10.031 at 121.90 mph on her 10.04 dial in. Chrissy held the r.t. advantage .530 to .557.
Jr. Dragster "A"
Kimberly Klein returned to the winner circle when she defeated Camrie Caruso in their final round match. With a free run down the track after Camrie lit the red light, Kimberly ran her KCS dragster to a 7.900 at 81.38 mph run on her 7.92 dial-in. Camrie also ran a 7.900 run on her 7.91 dial-in. Jenna Lipke and Duham Hall were the semifinalists.
Next Sunday will be an Open Test & Tune as many of our racers will be competing in the Division 1 Bracket Finals.
