Summit E.T. Racing Series - July 14

Gary Rolfe Jr. - Pro WinnerShowdown Races Finally Completed Under Extreme Heat

July 14 - After four straight weeks of cancelled racing we were finally able to complete another Summit Racing E.T. Series event. Three of our rained out Showdown events were completed on Sunday with the Pro, Pro MX and Street Showdown each competing for top class payouts. Gary Rolfe Jr. (Pro), John Kuhfta (Pro MX) and Jim Smith (Street) each beat the heat and the competition to score their Showdown Wins.

Pro
In Pro it was Gary Rolfe Jr. in his '85 S-10 defeating the "Shock Doc" Jeff Parker and his '91 Camaro with a .530-initiated 12.144 at 102.02 mph pass on his 12.12 dial-in to take the win. Jeff gave chase to Gary, but his .562 light was too much to overcome Gary at the top end and ran it out a 10.933 at 114.18 mph run on his 10.88 dial for the runner-up finish. Theodore Lewis and Myles Higby each finished their day with semifinal finishes. Thanks to Affordable Carpet and Affordable Shipping for sponsoring the race and thanks to Bill Lake for putting up $150 making the winners share $1100.

Tom Samsel - Super Pro WinnerSuper Pro
In Super Pro it was Tom Samsel scoring the win with a ’70 Nova that he just picked up on Wednesday. Tom was facing Bob Belvick in his Chevy powered dragster and this one was over early as Bob bulbed with a .490 red light and tossed away his 7.722 at 173.15 mph run on his 7.70 dial in. Tom took the win with a .540 initiated 10.357 at 128.92 mph run on his 10.37 dial. Joe LaRose was the semifinalist in his newly acquired dragster.

Pro MX
Pro MX saw John Kufhta ride his ’89 Polaris to the $600 win as he defeated Heath Smith who was on his ’07 Polaris. John had a .572 reaction time and ran 10.974 at 110.27 mph on his 10.91 dial to cover Heath’s .604 initiated 8.834 at 119.63 mph run on his 8.90 dial in. Ryan Orizino and Matt Guinan were the semifinalists.

Jim Smith - Street Showdown winnerStreet Money
The Street Money Showdown which paid the winner $300 today was won by Jim Smith in his ’89 GMC Sonoma. Jim had a .548 light and ran 12.891 at 105.12 mph on his 12.82 dial. Butch Bunal in his ’82 Camaro who very seldom races had a good showing making it to the final round, but unfortunately he lit the red bulb with a .469 foul and he shut off for the runner up spot. Former Jr. Dragster racer Tyler BeDell made it to the semi’s in his first attempt in Street Money.

Modified
Bill Lake took the Modified win in his ’78 Camaro stopping Don Austin who was in his ’93 S-10. Bill had a .514 light coupled with a 12.973 at 100.02 mph run on his 12.96 dial to turn back Don’s .548 initiated 10.204 at 130.06 mph run on his 10.15 dial in. April Martin and Fred Wieczerzak were the semifinalists.

Morgan Bunal - Street Trophy WinnerStreet Trophy
In Street Trophy, it was another former Jr. Dragster racer having a good showing as Morgan Bunal drove the family’s ’82 Camaro to the win stopping Steve English in the final round. Morgan had a .689 r.t. compared to Steve’s unusually late .933 and she clicked it off to a 12.95 at 87.86 mph on her 12.75 dial in. Steve took the runner up spot with a 12.70 at 107.42 mph on his 12.66 dial. Chad Blair was the semifinalist.

Bike/Sled Trophy
Matt Guinan took the Bike / Sled Trophy final round when he stopped “The Rocket” Rick Fies. Matt’s .523 to .644 starting line advantage was all he needed to win as he ran 9.442 at 141.12 mph on his 9.40 dial while Rick took the runner up spot with an 8,838 at 156.33 mph run on his 8.76 dial. Kevin Wuest was the semifinalist.

Paige DeSalvo - Jr. Dragster WinnerJr. Dragster
Jr. Dragster action saw Paige DeSalvo in her ’10 Halfscale stop Ron Klein Jr. in his ’13 Mike Bos Jr. dragster. Ron’s been in all three of the final rounds this year and was going for his second win and while he held a slight .568 to .575 starting line advantage, Paige was able to get around him for the win. Both were dialed at 7.90 and Paige ran right on with a 7.908 at 79.26 mph while Ron ran 7.922 at 82.40 mph for the runner up spot. Casey BeDell was the semifinalist.

We also had a Grudge Race between Tracey Stanley on his Drag Bike and Henry Hollifield in is Mustang. Tracey was able to get the win in this race.

Thank you to the entire ESTA staff for such a great job under such extreme heat conditions and thank you ESTA racers for putting on such a great event.
