Summit E.T. Racing Series - May 20

Eric Sadowski Wins Pro

Theodore Lewis Denies Ken Miller the Modified 3-Peat

May 20 - What a great day for drag racing on Sunday, May 20! Seven new winners graced the win column for the 2012 season as both Todd Minerd and Chrissy Klein each scored wins in the non-point season opener. After a horrible 2011 race season, 2012 has got off to a great start with 3-straight Summit Racing E.T. Racing Series events!

Super Pro
Carl Drake Jr.
driving his Chevy powered dragster put together a string of good reaction times, which led him to the Super Pro winner’s circle today. In the final round he had a .518 r.t. and ran a 7.563 at 171.01 mph on his 7.51 dial in to deny Scott Popple his chance for the win in his Chevy powered dragster. Scott settled for the runner up spot with a .574 initiated, 7.904 at 168.56 mph run on his 7.89 dial. Heather Scheirer was the semifinalist in yet another Chevy powered dragster.

Pro
Eric Sadowski
drove his Competition Wedge powered ’70 Dodge Challenger to the Pro win when he stopped Myles Higby who was driving his ’69 Dodge Dart in the all Mopar final round. Eric held a .571 to .591 starting line advantage and ran right on his 11.02 dial with an 11.025 at 118.68 mph winning effort. Myles ran a 10.135 at 133.17 mph on his 10.09 dial in his runner up effort. Fausto Rioscolon made it an all Mopar party with his semifinal round finish in his ’70 Dodge.

Pro MX
Many time class winner Heath Smith stole one today on his ’07 Polaris when Gary Wilson broke out on his ’03 Ski-Doo. Heath was dialed in at a quick 9.10 compared to Gary’s 12.23, but while Gary was heading down track Heath experienced some sort of problem and shut off to a 17.15. Gary kept his thumb to the bar and broke out with a 12.084 at 106.32 mph and had to settle for the runner up spot. Chrissy Klein was the semifinalist.

520stStreet Money

Larry Forjone
drove his ’91 Camaro to the win stopping current Street Money Champ Anthony Zangari who was in his familiar Z/28. Larry got the rare jump on Anthony at the line with a .513 to .555 advantage and won it with his 14.950 at 91.06 mph run on his 14.84 dial in. Anthony ran a 12.024 at 107.16 mph on his 11.93 dial. Todd Minerd and Sid Cuff were the semifinalists.

Modified
Ken Miller was going for his 3rd Mod win of the early season in his ’72 Maverick, but it was Theodore Lewis in his ’82 Firebird taking the win. Theo drilled the tree with a .508 and ran a 10.485 at 115.14 mph on his 10.37 to stop Ken who had a .527 light and slowed to an 11.937 at 101.58 mph run on his 10.83 dial. Pat Minogue was the semifinalist.

Street Trophy
Todd Minerd got the job done in Street Trophy when he drove his ’79 Camaro to the final round win over Brandon Harrington who was driving his ’04 Chevy. Todd ran a 13.039 at 93.73 mph on his 12.99 dial in with a .529 r.t., while Brandon had a .661 light and broke out with a 15.864 at 88.04 mph run on his 15.90 dial. Natalie Dodson and Jim Smith were the semifinalists.

520bstBike/Sled Trophy
The Bike/Sled Trophy final round came down to current co-champ’s Chrissy Klein and Kevin Wuest both on Polaris sled facing each other for the win. Chrissy held a .614 to .651 reaction time advantage and won with a 9.862 at 127.45 mph run on her 9.89 dial, while Kevin ran further under his 10.80 dial in with a 10.709 at 114.54 mph runner up effort. John Kufhta was the semifinalist.

Jr. Dragster "A"
Paige DeSalvo drove well and her ’10 Halfscale Jr. Dragster performed flawlessly as she ran three straight 7.91’s on her 7.91 dial in leading up to her final round match with Joshua Snyder who was driving his ’11 Halfscale. In the Jr. “A” final Paige held a .595 to .669 starting line advantage and she backed off at the stripe to win with a 7.942 at 77.99 mph on her 7.91 dial. Joshua ran a 7.925 at 83.35 mph on his 7.90 dial in for the runner up position. Kimberly Klein was the semifinalist.

Jr. Dragster "B"

Current Jr. “B” co champ Gracie Snyder took the win today when she defeated a red lighting Daniel Thorpe who was gunning for his second win of the season. Gracie had a .586 light and ran an 8.899 at 73.63 mph on her 8.90 dial, while Danny fouled with a .408 bulb and ran a 12.877 at 49.84 mph against his 12.90 dial in. Natalia Musolino and Jazmyne Short were the semifinalists.

That does it for today’s action. Hopefully we’ll get next week’s race in to make it a perfect month of May racing for 2012. See you at the drags.
