2012 Racing Season Opens with No-Points E.T. Racing
April 29 - Cold and windy, but dry conditions greeted racers as we conducted our first weekend of class competition for our regular E.T. Series classes on Sunday. Payouts and trophies were up for grabs, but no points towards season championships were on the line today. Due to the windy conditions at the top end, it was decided to run 1/8th today for safety reasons.
This Saturday, May 5th we will be running a test 'n tune event for racers wishing to "dial-it-in" one more time before the 2012 Summit Racing E.T. Series gets underway on Sunday.
Super Pro
In Super Pro it was Ken Miller wheeling his ’72 Maverick through field taking the win over a red lighting Tana Caprara who was in her Chevy powered dragster. Ken drilled the tree with a .504 light and ran 6.723 at 100.90 mph on his 6.69 dial. Tana bulbed with a .490 and ran 4.940 at 142.04 mph on her 4.89 dial in. Bob Belvick was the semifinalist.
Pro
Howie Smith drove his father’s ’80 Malibu Stocker to the win in Pro by stopping Mike LaRose who was in his ’69 Dart. Mike held the slight reaction time advantage .567 to .575 but he ran further under his dial in of 6.46 with a 6.444 at 103.73 mph effort. Howie scored the win with a less offensive 7.576 at 86.03 mph on his 7.58 dial in. Terry Lee was the semifinalist.
Pro MX
Pro MX action saw David Ashby take the early season win on his ’90 Kawasaki. David had a .563 r.t. and ran 8.453 at 79.37 mph run on his 8.36 dial. Nick Washburn on his ’02 Ski-Doo fouled with a .499 and had to settle for the runner up spot with a 5.845 at 120.57 mph run on his 5.86 dial. Chrissy Klein and Melissa Cerio were the semifinalists.
Street Money
Street Money action saw Clarence Spady grab the win in his ’93 Chevy by defeating Corey DeVoe who was in his ’72 Chevy. Clarence had the advantage at the starting line with a .565 to .622 and he ran 9.516 at 68.57 mph on his 9.29 dial in. Corey ran 8.787 at 73.90 mph on his 8.61 dial. Anthony Zangari was the semifinalist.
Modified
Brett VanBrocklin drove his Chevy powered dragster to the win in Modified by stopping Mike Plantz who was in his ’88 Eagle. Mike actually held a slight r.t. advantage but he ran under his 7.20 dial with a heartbreaking 7.199 at 92.74 mph runner up effort. Brett ran right on his 4.85 dial with a 4.853 at 135.51 mph winning pass. Don Leppard and Al Donadio were the semifinalists.
Street Trophy
Todd Minerd got off to a good start when he won the Street Trophy class driving his recently acquired ’79 Camaro. Todd had a .573 light and ran 8.317 at 73.89 mph on his 8.01 dial in to stop the runner up effort of Brad Horton who was in his ’95 Chevy. Brad had a .749 r.t. and ran 8.986 at 78.82 mph on his 8.85 dial. Joe Bird and Liz West were the semifinalists.
Bike/Sled Trophy
Two of last season’s co-champs in Bike Sled Trophy met in the final round when Chrissy Klein on her ’02 Polaris defeated Ryan Orizino who was on his ’96 Arctic Cat. Chrissy held the r.t. advantage .569 to .589 and she won with a 6.331 at 98.70 mph run on her 6.23 dial while Ryan settled for the runner up spot with a 6.440 at 104.15 mph on his 6.32 dial in. Matt Luke was the semifinalist.
Jr. Dragster "A"
In Jr. Dragster “A” action it was Dunham Hall winning a close one over Kimberly Klein. Reaction times were very close with Dunham holding a slight .519 to .521 advantage. When they reached the 1/8 mile Dunham matched his 7.90 dial with a 7.908 at 82.24 mph to seal the victory. Kim was right there with her 7.916 at 81.64 mph run on her 7.90 dial in but had to settle for the runner up spot today. Shannon Harrison and Dylan Peckham were semifinalists.
Jr. Dragster "B"
In Jr. Dragster “B” the final round came down to two 8 year olds making their first appearances in Jr. Dragster racing action. It was Daniel Thorpe taking on Natalia Musolino for their shot at their first win. Natalia held a .557 to .706 starting line advantage but both drivers ran under their dial in’s with Danny breaking out by less with his 13.096 at 45.82 mph run on is 13.18 dial in to Natalia’s 12.878 at 50.90 mph run on her 13.02 prediction, a great effort put forth by both drivers. Shane Bingel and Kerstin Harris were the semifinalists.
