Summit E.T. Racing Series - October 13

Craig Giordano

Giordano, Fix, Costa Score Pro Wins

October 13 - As the 2019 E.T. racing season winds down with one point race remaining on the schedule, Sunday's event was blessed with near-perfect weather conditions. It was needed as we ran a full Summit Racing E.T. Series card plus our annual Stock/Super Stock race and the American Muscle Pro Stick crew. The only negative on the day was that a few finals were determined by lane choice as some finalists had to stare straight into a setting sun and could not see the tree. Here's how the final rounds shook out and the boxscores below.

Craig Giordano - Super Pro Winner

Super Pro
In the Super Pro final Bob Belvick had the setting sun handicap against Craig Giordano and was able to go green, but Craig was able to grab a substantial .025 to .616 reaction time advantage to score the win. Dialing in at a 6.35, Craig had enough in the bank and cruised to a 6.414 at 98.26 mph to hold off Bob's top end charge. Bob dialed his dragster in at a 4.95 and ran a solid 4.985 at 136.21 mph, but could not overcome his starting line deficit and settled for the runner-up finish. Tom Belvick was the lone semifinalist.

Mason Fix - Pro Winner

Pro
Mason Fix got the holeshot win over Gary Rolfe Jr. on the strength of his .016 to .085 reaction time lead. Mason dialed his '69 Dodge in at a 7.12 and held off Gary at the finish with a 7.197 at 87.58 mph pass. Gary ran closer to his 6.80 dial, but couldn't close the R.T. gap and drove to a 6.838 at 101.52 mph and collected the yellow timeslip. Brian Mahler drove his Mopar to the lone semifinal finish.

Josh Costa - Pro MX Winner

Pro MX
The bikes dominated the Pro MX class on Sunday as Josh Costa scored the win over Peter Edward in their battle of the "Zukes!" Peter got the head start dialing in his 2013 Suzuki at a 5.65 and held a slim .068 to .071 reaction advantage,  but took too much win stripe and lost the double breakout final with a 5.618 at 129.68 mph. Josh dialed his '09 Suzuki in at a 5.47 and took the win with a 5.458 at 127.81 mph. Papo Santiago was the lone semifinalist.

Todd Minerd - Street Money Winner

Street Money
Todd Minerd scored his first win of the 2019 season when he drove his '89 Chevy to an off-the-throttle 8.527 on his 8.31 dial-in as Brandon Town had some kind of issues and fell off his 7.94 dial-in by nearly 3 seconds. Todd held a .075 to .161 reaction time advantage. Steve Seelman Jr. drove to the lone semifinal finish.

Brett Hoffman - Modified Winner

Modified
Brett Hoffman was another beneficiary of the setting sun in the Modified final against Mark Dobie, but he would have tough to beat as he cut a .048 reaction and drove his '72 Chevy out to a 6.836 at 98.44 mph on his 6.83 dial-in. Mark was dialed in at a 6.12, but never left the line as he probably wished he had some welding goggles to see the tree. Howard Roberts bowed out in the semis.

Bill Coon - Street Trophy Winner

Trophy
Bill Coon won the double-breakout final against Steve Seelman Sr. in Street Trophy on Sunday. Bill held a .088 to .118 reaction time advantage and forced Steve into piloting his Corvette into breaking out more to score the win. Bill drove to a .034-under, 9.515 at 72.90 mph, while Steve drove to a .042-under, 8.408 at 81.51 mph. Kurt Hagen and Dan Waldron each drove to semifinal finishes.

Bike/Sled Trophy
Brandon MacCombie got the Bike/Sled Trophy win when Josh Costa left the line before the tree activated. Brandon drove to a 6.058 at 108.74 mph on his 6.02 dial-in to take the win. Ron Underwood was the lone semifinalist.

Daniel Thorpe - Jr. Dragster Winner

Jr. Dragster
Daniel Thorpe scored a red-light win when Kimberlee Snell pushed the tree just a tad too hard in their final round duel. Daniel had a great .024 light and drove to a .006-under 7.903 at 83.95 mph, but Kimberlee's foul already determined the outcome. Kimberlee went -0.031 red and drove to a 7.963 on her 7.92 dial. Jimmy O'Toole and Messiah Hart were the semifinalists.

Anthony Zegarelli - Stock/Super Stock Winner

Stock/Super Stock
Anthony Zegarelli held a .015 to .031 reaction time lead over Michael McGrath and extended that lead with a .009-over, 6.529 at 97.99 mph on his 6.52 dial to score the Stock/Super Stock win. Michael drove his '68 Dodge to a 7.033 at 94.91 mph on his 7.02 dial to reel in the runner-up finish. Lance Pinto and Mark Lawton each drove to semifinal finishes.

Bill Bruce - Pro Stick Winner

American Muscle Pro Stick
Bill Bruce scored the Pro Stick win over Bill Goldsmith when he drove his '67 Chevy to a 7.264 on his 7.18 dial-in to secure the win. Bill "G" dialed his '65 Mercury in at a 7.73 and drove to a 7.800 at 80.31 mph in his runner-up effort, his .105 to .085 reaction time deficit was enough for Bill "B" to drive around for the win. Wally Warzecha was the lone semifinalist.
