Summit E.T. Racing Series - June 9

2019 Season Opener

Zegarelli Gets Super Pro Payback in Season Opener
June 9 - As it seems to be a trend for Northeast drag racing rainouts in recent years, we finally got our 2019 Summit Racing E.T. Series campaign started on Sunday with a full E.T. Series program that was highlighted with Limited Street 5.50 and 6.50 Index and Pro Stick races. Here's how the final rounds shook out and the boxscores below.

Super Pro
The Super Pro final saw Anthony Zegarelli score some payback on Anthony Zangari who defeated him in their round one match-up. Anthony bought back into the event and drove his '63 Corvette to an awesome .006 package in the final. "Ant Zeg" had a 1.1 second head start and posted a .003 reaction time and cruised to the win with a .003-over 5.863 at 121.27 mph winning pass. "Ant Zan" gave up the line with a .031-initiated 4.782 at 144.40 mph run (4.76 dial), but couldn't reel Ant Zeg in and settled for the runner-up finish. Tom Roberts and Tom Doig both drove to semifinal finishes.

Pro
Dan Caissie gave his '87 Mustang a workout today as he drove to 2 class finals and a semifinal finish in Street Money. He scored the Pro win over Mike LaRose who broke out in his '69 Dodge. Mike got the reaction time advantage with a .037 to .063 lead, but took too much finishline stripe and broke out on his 6.36 dial-in with a 6.348 at 100.89 mph handing the win over to Dan. Dialing in at a 6.89, Dan drove his pony to a 6.094 at 99.57 mph to score the win. Gary Rolfe Sr. was the lone semifinalist.

Pro MX
Pro MX action saw Rich Garguilo ride his '04 Arctic Cat to the win over Matt Luke and his potent 2017 Suzuki. Rich cut a great .017 light and cruised to an easy 6.501 at 104.63 mph run on his 6.39 dial to score the win. Matt cut an uncharacteristically late .326 reaction and bombed his 5.75 dial with a quick 5.694 and 125.32 mph runner-up pass. Reigning class champion, Ryan Orizino drove to a semifinal finish.

Street Money
Jim Smith won the Street Money final over Steve Seelman Jr. who was .001 away from a stellar, .008 package, but the glowing red light negated what would have been a probable win light for Steve. Most likely, Jim saw Steve's red light and eased off the line with a .445 reaction and cruised to the win with an on-the-throttle 7.230 at 97.36 mph pass on his 7.25 dial-in. Steve English and Dan Caissie made it to the semis.

Pro Stick
Mike Rodgers drove his Oldsmobile to the Pro Stick win over a red-lighting Tim LaRose and his Chevy Nova. Mike drove to a .100-initiated, 7.267 at 101.35 mph run on his 7.30 dial to score the win. Tim's too-quick -.008 foul negated a 6.244 at 109.21 mph run on his 6.20 dial and he had to settle for a second place finish. Mark Fortino was the lone semifinalist.

Modified
Steve Ellinger took the Modified win over Gene Stankivitz. It was essentially over at the start when Steve posted a .052 to .115 reaction time advantage and ran closer to his 6.30 dial-in to score the win. Gene drove to a 7.381 e.t. on his 7.34 dial in his runner-up effort. Gary Rolfe Sr. drove to his first of 2 semifinal finishes on the day.

Street Trophy
Kurt Hagen got the Trophy win over Dan Cassie when Dan squeezed the tree .002 too hard and lit the red bulb. Kurt ran his 2011 Camaro out to an 1/8th pass of 7.981 on his 8.00 dial-in to score the win. Mark Schmidt drove to a semifinal finish.

Bike/Sled Trophy
Matt Luke got the B/S Trophy win over Rich Garguilo winning both ends of the track. Matt got the reaction time advantage .066 to .181 and reeled Rich in at the top end to post a 5.881 on his 5.71 dial for the win. Brandon MacCombie and Kevin Wuest were the semifinalist.

Jr. Dragster
Alexis Collins had a bye-run win in the Jr. Dragster final when Kimberlee Snell broke before she could stage.  Jimmy O'Toole made it to the semis.

Limited Street 5.50 Index
David Crossman got the easy win over Warren Vandish with his .060 to .467 reaction time advantage. David eased to a 5.757 at 115.90 mph pass, while Warren drove it out to a 5.613 at 125.63 mph run for the runner-up effort. Andy Paiz was the semifinalist.

Limited Street 6.50 Index
Dan Marvin nailed the 6.50 Index in his Camaro with a 6.505 at 107.15 mph winning run to defeat Anthony Zangari in his Camaro. Anthony broke out of the 6.50 index with a too-quick 6.467 pass trying to make up ground from Dan's .048 to .092 r.t. advantage.

That wraps it up for today's action, we'll see you next Sunday.
