Howard Roberts Scores Affordable Carpet Street Shootout Win

Howard Roberts - Street Shootout Winner

August 6 - August Summit Racing E.T. Series NHRA drag racing at ESTA was kicked off yesterday that was highlighted with the Affordable Carpets Street Shootout. After two "major money" events for the Pro classes in July, the Street class racers got their chance to race for some extra coin.  Here's how the final rounds shook out and the boxscores below.

Iggy Falcone - Super Pro Winner

Super Pro
Due to some water at the top end of the track, the decision was made to run Super Pro 1/8 mile today to accommodate any dragsters who need to deploy their chutes. The Super Pro final saw Iggy Falcone score the Super Pro win when his opponent Steve Doss left the red light glowing in his lane. Iggy was on his game regardless when after a solid .021 light, he nailed his 6.40 dial-in with a 6.402 at 107.16 mph winning pass. Steve legged it out anyway and ran a 4.981 on his 4.97 dial to take the runner-up finish. Scott Drake was the lone semifinalist.

Jason Wahl - Pro Winner

Pro
Jay Wahl returned to the Pro Winner Circle in his '86 Camaro when he defeated Al Davis and his '85 Porsche. Jay took a commanding .049 to .105 starting line advantage and powered to a 10.079 at 134.70 mph pass on his 10.02 dial for the win. Al drove to 10.156 E.T. on his 10.12 dial-in for his runner-up effort. Mike LaRose drove to a semifinal finish.

Bob Salerno - Pro MX Winner

Pro MX
Pro MX action saw Bob Salerno defeat last week's winner Ryan Orizino in their final round match. Bob was off the throttle at top end when Ryan carded an uncharacteristic .116 reaction time leaving Bob plenty of cushion for the win. David Ashby and Ron Dean drove to semifinal finishes.

Affordable Carpet Street Shootout
Howard Roberts bettered his July 30 runner-up finish and scored the Affordable Carpet Shootout $1,000 top prize when the "Cold Brook Comet" Rod Skinner went -0.049 red in his '83 Malibu wagon. Howard drove his '84 Firebird to a .074-initiated 10.086 on his 10.77 dial to take the top prize. Rod drove his potent wagon to a 11.470 at 114.25 mph pass on his 11.42 dial for the runner-up honors. Al Meier and Joe Demario were the semifinalists.

Gary French - Modified Winner

Modified
Gary French got a Bye Run in the Modified final when the aforementioned Rod Skinner didn't take the line. Gary chose to go for a full pass instead of just taking the light and drilled his 11.55 dial-in by running a 11.554 at 114.55 mph. Myles Higby and Steve Ellinger drove to semifinal finishes.

Street Trophy
Steve English scored the Street Trophy win in his '82 Oldsmobile Cutlass on the strength of his .052 to .199 reaction time advantage over Jim Pipines who was driving his 2017 Mercedes instead of his Galloway Corvette. Both drivers ran off their dial-ins after the the outcome was obvious at the top end. Jon Skellham ws the lone semifinalist.

Bike/Sled Trophy
Ron Dean had a massive .100 starting line advantage over Skip Tamburino and cruised to a winning 10.090 E.T. on his 10.04 dial to take the Bike/Sled Trophy win. Skip drove his Kawasaki to a near dead-on 9.613 at 130.93 mph, but his start line disadvantage was too great to drive around. Rich Garulio and Bob Salerno were the semifinalists.

Jimmy O'Toole - Jr. Dragster Winner

Jr. Dragster
Jimmy O'Toole drove his '10 Halfscale to the Jr. Dragster win over Alexis Collins on the strength of his .074-initiated, 7.928 on his 7.90 dial. Alexis was off a bit on both ends of the track and had to settle for the runner-up honors. AJ Denmark was the lone semifinalist.

That wraps it up for today's action. Next Sunday, August 13 we are running an Open Test 'n Tune event from 10am to 5pm.
