It was good to smell, feel, and hear nitro again at the ESTA Safety Park, as the Nitro-Diction AA/FD team of Jim Didio and Alan Aroneck made testing runs on Sunday. After making a nine second shakedown run to make sure everything was working properly with the new combination, crew chief Bill Graney and clutch man Forrest Lorance went to work to try to grab the track records. On the second run, driver Howard Haight got out of the groove just beyond the concrete launch pad, ran along the guardrail smoking the tires at will, stopping the timers at 7.00 @ 216.26 MPH. The 216 MPH run is the fastest we’ve seen a piston powered car run on the ESTA quarter mile in over 20 years. The team plans to test again in a few weeks before heading out of town to run the Good Guys and nostalgia circuits. Didio said “We’ll be back”.
