Laura Shepherd Scores $10k Break in Saturday Bash
July 26 - Day 1 of the F.X. Caprara $10K-to-Win Bracket Bash saw 97 competitors pony up for a crack at Saturday's $10,000 first place prize. An additional 30 racers bought back in after round one losses, but in the end, it was Laura Shepherd fromTillsonburg, Ontario Canada cashing in on the big payday.
Laura earned her way into the final dash-for-cash, but caught a break literally when her opponent Russ Denmark broke at top end and fell 2-tenths of his 4.64 dial-in. Laura ran a great top end pass with a 4.790 at 143.28 mph run on her 4.78 dial, but opened the door for Russ to drive around her with a .574 to .531 reaction time deficit. Russ, a regular competitor at Skyview Drags, was dialed in at a quicker 4.64, but fell off to a 4.849 at 139.65 mph for the runner-up finish. John Cooper, a frequent racer at both ESTA and Skyview was the lone semifinalist.
