Summit E.T. Racing Series - September 14

2014 NYS Championship Victors Crowned

2014 NYS Championship Winners

September 14 - Despite a rainy Saturday afternoon, it did not impede racing for our annual NYS Championships/National Dragster Challenge event. Top payouts and NHRA Wally trophies awaited the top eliminators in each class.

Check out the Final Round Boxscores Here.

Pete Winfrey - Supe Pro Winner

Super Pro
The Super Pro final round came down to Pete Winfrey in his Chevy powered dragster against Jack Vault driving his Ford powered rail. After both drivers lit the stage lights and nailed the throttle Jack’s dragster rolled back out of the stage light and terminated his run allowing Pete to single for the win. Pete ran 8.246 at 153.14 mph on his 8.23 dial to collect his “Wally”. Jim Cieri was the semifinalist.

Myles Higby - Pro Winner

It was an all Mopar final round in Pro with Mike LaRose taking on Myles Higby who was fresh off his “King of the Track” win last week. As the tree came down Mike held a .511 to .568 reaction time advantage, but at the stripe I do believe that he blipped the throttle one too many times as he ran a 10.487 at 122.02 mph on his 10.37 allowing Myles to grab the win and his second “Wally” in two weeks. Myles winning numbers were 10.728 at 122.25 mph run on his 10.67 dial in. Anthony Zegarelli lost in the semi’s.

Ron Dean - Pro MX Winner

Pro MX
Pro MX saw Ron Dean ride his ’98 Ski-Doo to the win stopping Bob Salerno on his ’06 Ski-Doo.  After virtually identical reaction times .582 to .583 in Ron’s favor he was able to pull off the win with a 10.095 at 125.38 mph run on his 10.05 prediction. Bob had to settle for the runner up spot because he ran under his 10.08 dial in with a 10.053 at 121.22 mph breakout pass. Skip Tamburino finished as the semifinalist.

Peter DeSalvo - Street Money Winner

Street Money
What can you say about that son of mine, flying in from Los Angeles for a surprise visit and racing his “borrowed” 2014 Ford Focus and leaving with the Street Money “Wally.”  Peter had no easy path to the final round as he had to stop last week’s double winner Kurt Hagen in the first round and then beat Jim Smith and Howard Roberts before facing off against Rick Vose in his ’75 Plymouth. For the final Peter was dialed in at 16.66 and Rick was in at 11.60, Rick held a slight .589 to .606 starting line edge, but he ran under with an 11.570 at 110.83 mph while Peter ran 16.723 at 83.19 mph for his big win. Jessica DeSiato and Howard Roberts were the semifinalists.

Tom Samsel - Modified Winner

Tom Samsel drove his Chevy powered ’85 Porsche to the Modified win when he defeated Don Austin in his ’93 S-10. Tom put together a nice final round package with a .531 light and running right on his 10.57 dial with a 10.575 at 122.28 mph winning pass. Don had a .559 light and was forced under his 9.80 dial with a 9.772 at 135.97 mph runner up effort. Mark Dobie was the semifinalist.

Street Trophy
Kurt Hagen in his ’11 Camaro made it three straight final round wins in a row when he won the Street Trophy class today. Rod Skinner in his Chevy timed out before he fully staged which disqualified him allowing Kurt to single with a .541 initiated, 12.623 at 110.82 mph run on his 12.65 dial in. Justin Hardman was the semifinalist.

Khyle Jennison - Bike/Sled Trophy Winner

Bike/Sled Trophy
In Bike/Sled Trophy  Khyle Jennison rode his ’08 Ski-Doo to the win defeating Bob Salerno . Khyle was dialed in at 9.99 and ran 10.057 at 120.29 mph with a .633 light to stop Bob’s .631 initiated 10.103 at 121.31 mph runner up effort. Sudsy Eastman was the semifinalist.

Casey BeDell - Jr Dragster Winner

Jr. Dragster
The Jr. Dragster final round came down to Casey Bedell against current point leader Dunham Hall. Dunham held a .624 to .679 reaction time advantage, but he had some mechanical issues and could only run an 8.221 at 79.94 mph run on his 7.96 dial. Casey, who was dialed in at 7.90 saw that Dunham was having issues and eased off and won with an 8.010 at 75.76 mph. Shane Bingel and Daniel Thorpe were the semifinalists.

Thanks to everyone that came out today and congratulations to all of the winners for winning the NYS Championship/National Dragster Challenge.

This Sunday the 21st is Bracket Finals weekend, so we will be running an open test & tune, followed by our annual NHRA Stock/Super Stock Shootout on September 28.
