Summit Racing E.T. Series Resumes

Jeremy Popple - Super Pro Winner

August 24 - After a non-points scheduled event and a rainout, we got in a full day of quarter-mile drag racing that included our annual Girls Go Racing special event. We also welcomed the NHRA "Stat Guy" Lewis Bloom who was filming a member track segment as well. Stay tuned for the complete event recap, but Check out the Final Round Boxscores Here.

Super Pro
In the racing action it was Jeremy Popple scoring his first Super Pro win stopping Tom Belvick who was appearing in his fourth final of the season. Both drivers were in Chevy powered dragsters and it was Jeremy using a slight starting line advantage, .523 to .530 and running a 7.996 at 160.77 mph on his 7.98 dial to hold off Tom’s 7.864 at 169.04 mph run on his 7.85 dial to grab his spot in the ESTA winner’s circle. Jeremy’s father Scott Popple was the semifinalist.

Vito Raineri - Pro Winner

Pro
Vito Raineri made his way back to the ESTA winner’s circle driving his ’73 Plymouth to the Pro win after defeating Myles Higby in his ’69 Dodge. Vito had a few .50 lights on his way to the final and he had one more left in him as he laid down a stout .506 and backed off to a 9.197 at 140.22 mph, while Myles had a .575 light and ran right on his 10.64 dial with a 10.6407 at 124.69 mph for the runner up spot. Gary Rolfe Jr. and Mark Dobie were the semifinalists.

Pro MX
Pro MX today was won by Bob Salerno on his ’06 Ski-Doo 800. Bob had it easy in this final round because his opponent Steve Stone left the red light glowing in his lane and shut off. Bob had a .537 r.t. and ran a 10.128 at 121.24 mph run on his 10.08 dial. Brian Moulton was the semifinalist on his Kawasaki.

Jordan Reader - Street Money Winner

Modified
In Modified it was Jim Giordano driving his ’70 Plymouth to the win after a .485 red light by his opponent Don Austin driving his ’93 S-10. Jim had a subpar .636 light, but that’s all it took to win and he ran a 10.778 at 124.02 mph on his 10.70 dial in. Don ran 9.852 at 136.35 mph. Al Davis and Kim Rogge were the semifinalists.

Dunham had a .575 light and ran under his 7.90 dial in with a 7.870 at 83.37 mph break out pass. Jenna Lipke lost to Dunham in the semi’s.

Heather Scheirer - Girls-Go-Racing Winner

Girls-Go-Racing
We also held the Girls Go Racing event today and it was Heather Scheirer defending her win from last year driving her Chevy powered dragster to a very close win over Kim Rogge in her ’73 Dodge. Heather had a .537 r.t. and ran right on her 8.10 dial in with an 8.106 at 159.73 mph, while Kim was right alongside with her .539 initiated, 11.187 at 116.58 mph run on her 11.15 dial in. Liz West made it to the semi’s. A special thanks to Colleen for arranging the door prizes for the girls.

artania

We had a perfect sunny day for drag racing today and I have to believe that this was partly due to Artania Crouse looking down on us and giving us such a fine day. Tanya’s life was cut short last December in an automobile accident and today we paid tribute to her. After a heart felt speech from Bob Crouse, Dunham Hall played “Over the Rainbow” on his Saxophone and then per Tanya’s wishes her ashes were spread over the track when Gene Stankivitz deployed his parachute just past the ¼ mile. It was a fitting tribute to such a nice woman.

I also want to thank Gary Simons for all of the work he has done for us over the past 13 years. Gary has accepted a full time position at Maryland International Raceway and will be living there now. We wish him all the best and I’m sure he’ll do fine at M.I.R.
