Summit E.T. Racing Series - August 4

Roberts Scores Super Victory, Smith Repeats in Pro MX

August 4 - With rain all around us we somehow managed to dodge the wet stuff and complete only our 4th Summit Racing E.T. Points race of the season. Today we also ran the Super Pro Showdown which paid $1000 to the winner.

Super Pro
Tim Roberts
with the tuning help of his wife Dawn guided his Chevy powered dragster to the top payout in Super Pro narrowly defeating Jack Vault in his Ford powered dragster. Tim used a stellar .502 reaction time to run a backed off 4.994 at 138.05 mph run on his 4.97 dial in, while Jack had to settle for the runner-up spot with a 4.736 at 145.25 mph run on his 4.73. The margin of victory for Tim was .009. Also of note this was Jack's first week back with his dragster after suffering engine damage about a month ago and he looked sharp as he ran three straight 4.73s leading up to the final round. Steve Doss continues to impress with his move into a dragster and he finished in the semi's.

In Pro it was Mike LaRose Jr. in his '34 Roadster taking the win in what he says is his last drag race. Mike told us he is moving into the circle turning, dirt burning ranks of motorsports with a motorcycle powered Micro Light car.
Today he defeated Mary Walker who was driving Chris Raineri's Dodge. Mary lit the big red bulb and had to settle for the runner-up spot with her 7.359 on her 7.34 dial, while Mike won it with a 6.774 on his 6.75 dial-in. The always popular Todd Minerd was the semifinalist.

Pro MX
In Pro MX action Heath Smith scored his second straight win aboard his Ski-doo race sled defeating defending points champ Chrissy Klein on her Polaris. This one was over early as Chrissy left too soon and fouled with a .434 bulb allowing Heath to win with his .536-initiated, 5.846 at 123.98 mph run on his 5.75 dial-in. Skip Tamburino and Kevin Wuest were the semifinalists.

Street Money
Street Money racing saw Tyler BeDell take his first ever win in the big car division after moving up from the Jr. Dragster ranks last season. Tyler was the benefactor of a red light start from my son Peter DeSalvo who was racing in his second straight final round. Peter bulbed with a .471 to take the runner up money while Tyler in his '85 "Hot Rod Black" '85 Regal had a decent .568 light and ran it through to a 8.410 at 81.25 mph against his 8.54 dial. Congrats to the BeDell gang on a much deserved win. Current points leader and Showdown winner Jim Smith made it to the semis, as well as former Jr. Dragster driver Morgan Bunal.

Joe Fiorentino driving his dragster was the Modified winner in another final round decided by a red light start. This time it was Don Austin in his '93 S-10 lighting the red bulb with a .465 allowing Joe to win with a .565 r.t. and running a 5.05 on his 5.01 dial-in. April Martin and Becca Searles another,  Jr. Dragster graduate, were the semifinalists.

Street Trophy
In Street Trophy it was the ever-popular Kim Rossiter taking her first ever win in the class, driving her '69 Chevelle in the final round to defeat Money winner Tyler BeDell in his '85 Regal. Kim ran a 9.468 at 77.55 mph on her 9.36 dial-in, while Tyler runner-upped with an 8.96. Morgan Bunal scored her second semifinal finish of the day.

Bike/Sled Trophy
Chrissy Klein scored the win in the Bike/Sled Trophy class guiding her '02 Polaris to a .529 initiated, 6.634 at 93.70 mph run on her 6.39 dial-in. John Kufhta was the runner-up on his '89 Polaris with a .560 r.t. and he went 6.913 at 95.50 mph on his 6.68 dial-in. Mike Schultz was the lone semifinalist.

Jr. Dragster
Paige DeSalvo grabbed her second Jr. Dragster win of the season driving her 2010 Halfscale to the win by defeating Casey BeDell. Both drivers had subpar reaction times with Paige's .609 a tad better than Casey's .610 and as they made their way down the 1/8 mile, Paige won with a 7.947 at 80.08 mph, right on her 7.94 dial, while Casey ran under his 8.00 dial in with a 7.985 at 79.18 mph runner up effort. Mackenzie Cayea was the semifinalist.

That will wrap up the action for today, we'll be back next week with a time trial Saturday and a non-points race for Sunday. Hope for some dry weather and we'll see you there.
