September 16 - An action-packed day of racing commenced on Sunday as the rained out September 2nd NYS Championships/ ND Challenge shared the spotlight with our Annual NHRA Stock/Super Stock Challenge event. Great weather made for an awesome day of racing. Here's a quick recap of the racing action.

NYS Championships/ND Challenge
In our main story photo, a group shot of our Wally Winners was shot at the conclusion of racing. Left to right: Jon Skellham - Street Money, Dennis Boston Jr. - Pro MX, Anthony Zangari - Pro, Chrissy Klein - Bike/Sled Trophy, Jeff Parker - Modified and Bob Belvick - Super Pro.

NHRA Stock/Super Stock Challenge
Stock/Super Stock saw Thomas Fletcher roll through the gates and leave with the win in his ’69 Chevy Wagon. On the other side of the ladder Howie Smith made his way to the final driving his ’80 Malibu. Tom had a .537 light and cruised to a winning 12.293 at 103.21 mph run on his 12.20 dial in, while for whatever reason Howie missed the tree with a subpar .650 light and settled the runner up spot with a 12.092 at 107.86 mph, right on his 12.09 dial in. Rob Garvey and Gianni Cantusci were the semifinalists.

Super Pro
Bob Belvick
kept his mid to late season charge going as he won Super Pro and added a “Wally” to is collection. Bob, who was driving his dragster was up against Westley Cayea in his Chevy Nova. Westley bulbed with a .481 and shut off while Bob would have been awfully tough to beat after he carded a .507 r.t. and ran very close to his 7.84 dial in with a 7.853 at 169.65 mph winning pass. Chuck Fish ran well and was the semifinalist.

The Pro final came down to Anthony Zangari in his ’99 Camaro against Matt Bunal who was in his ’91 Camaro. Matt’s car was broken early in the event, but somehow his opponents had some other misfortunes and lost to him, he also earned a bye run on his way to the final round. Anthony took no chances in the final as all he did was stage the car and make his victory lap down the strip with a 21.75 at 50.21 mph run on his 10.17 dial. Mike LaRose and Anthony Zegarelli were the semifinalists.

Pro MX
Dennis Boston
who took most of the season off has been on quite the run since he has been back and today he collected his third “Wally” with a win in the Pro MX class. Dennis on his ’03 Ski-Doo held a huge .522 to .607 starting line advantage over Keith Miller who was on his Suzuki and won with a 10.030 at 125.29 mph run on his 9.96 dial, while Keith ran under his 10.02 with a 9.970 at 127.52 mph. Chrissy Klein and Kevin Wuest lost in the semi’s.

Street Money
Street Money came down to Jon Skellham in his ’68 Chevy against Gene Stankivitz who was driving his ’03 GMC Sonoma. The reaction times were close .584 to .596 in Jon’s favor and walked off with his “Wally” with a 13.208 at 92.05 mph run on his 13.14 prediction. Gene settled for the runner up spot with a 17.167 at 77.48 mph run on his 17.08 dial. Sid Cuff and AJ Meirer were the semifinalists.

Modified was won by Jeff Parker who returned to racing today after about a month hiatus. Jeff drove his ’81 Camaro to the win after Anthony Zegarelli fouled in his ’99 Camaro. Jeff had a .530 light and ran right on his 10.35 dial with a 10.353 at 129.63 mph while Anthony lit the red light with a .492 foul and ran a 10.422 at 130.53 mph on his 10.38 dial. Fran Gentile was the semifinalist.

Street Trophy
Steve English picked up another win in the Street Trophy class defeating Sid Cuff in the final round. Steve was razor sharp at the tree with a .502 to .568 advantage and he ran a 13.022 at 96.77 mph on his 12.90 dial to make Sid the runner up with his 13.583 at 101.13 mph run on his 13.51 dial in. Todd Minerd and Howie Conklin were the semifinalists.

Bike/Sled Trophy
In the Bike/Sled Trophy final Rick Fies on his ’06 Suzuki held a .543 to .593 starting line advantage on Chrissy Klein on her ’02 Polaris, but he ran under his 8.79 dial in with an 8.768 at 138.02 mph run which allowed Chrissy to take the win with her 10.004 at 125.02 mph which was right on her 10 flat dial in and put her into the runoff for the Trophy “Wally” with Steve English. Nate Jacobs was the semifinalist.

In the Trophy runoff, Chrissy won with a .540 initiated, 10.098 at 123.54 mph run on her 10.08, while Steve had a .573 light and ran just under his 12.88 dial in 12.879 at 99.53 mph to collect his “Tree” style trophy.

Jr. Dragster "A"
Jr. Dragster “A” came down to Paige DeSalvo and Dunham Hall taking their shot at the National Dragster Challenge Trophy. Paige held a .542 to .572 r.t. advantage, but took too much stripe and lost by .001 with her 7.878 at 80.24 mph run on her 7.91 dial in. Dunham who was dialed in at 7.90 won with a 7.869 at 83.03 mph to take home the “Tree” trophy. Shannon Harrison and Camie Caruso were the semifinalists.

Jr. Dragster "B"
Jr. Dragster “B” class action saw Jack Caruso score the win over Natalia Musolino in another extremely close match up. Jack had a .593 to .612 r.t. edge and he won it with an 11.611 at 55.48 mph on his 11.60 dial. Natalia settled for the runner up spot with a dial in matching 12.971 at 51.48 mph effort.
