Dan Cerio Memorial Shootout - August 12

Dan Cerio Memorial Shootout

Boston Comes Out of Hiatus to Score Shootout Win

August 12 - Sunday's event was a race to honor our friend and fellow racer Dan Cerio Jr. who was tragically taken away from us in a racing accident earlier this year. Danny was an accomplished racer who achieved success in both the motorcycle and sled classes here at ESTA and elsewhere. The race, organized by Freddie Jacobs, included Street Bikes and asphalt sled racers all vying for the $2,000 first place prize money and numerous special awards donated by various sponsors. We also ran our regular E.T. Series classes, but the event was a non-points weekend.

Dan Cerio Memorial Street Bike/Sled Shootout
Dennis Boston has taken a hiatus from racing recently, but made his return to the ESTA quarter a mighty profitable one as he defeated Chrissy Klein in the final round. Dennis gave up .022 on the tree to Chrissy, .584 to .562, but ran a solid run of 6.141 at 99.75 mph on his 6.10 dial to drive around Chrissy for the big win. Chrissy fell off her 6.19 dial-in when she ran a 6.31 at 105.86 mph pass and settled for the runner-up finish. The last two remaining bikes in the field got knocked out in the semifinals when event organizer Freddie Jacobs and Slaven Peric piloted their rides to the semis in the 48 entry field. It was a great race and we're sure that Danny was smiling down on us!

Super Pro
Mark Talmadge drove his '75 Vega to the Super Pro win over Terry Holt and his '92 Dakota. The race was over at the start when Terry cut a heartbreaking .499 red light ending any chance for a victory. Defeating Mark would have been a challenge as he strapped a .503 light on the board and ran a 9.778 at 132.42 mph run on his 9.73 dial-in. Terry ran it out and went a 10.540 at 125.00 mph on his 10.48 dial. Heather Scheirer was the lone semifinalist.

Jordan Reader had a great day as he powered his '88 Ford Ranger to the Pro win over Mike LaRose and his venerable '69 Dart. In a near photo finish, Jordan's .525 to .542 starting line advantage was just enough to squeeze out a .006 MOV win over the reigning Pro Champion. Jordan ran his Ranger to an 11.614 at 116.22 mph pass on his 11.59 dial and held off Mike's 10.393 at 122.35 mph charge for the win. Theodore Lewis made another deep run and finished as the lone semifinalist.

Street Money
Diane Ashby took her trusty Monte Carlo to the Street Money win over Pro winner Jordan Reader in a double breakout final. Diane got her run started with a .628 light and ran a 15.648 pass on her 15.67 dial that was good enough to get the win light over Jordan. Jordan held the starting line advantage with his .581 light, but took too much win stripe with a 11.628 run on his 11.65 dial-in, spoiling his bid to double up on the day. Matt Consiglio and Andrea Bisson were the semifinalists.

In Modified David Filicia Jr. wheeled his '99 Camaro to the Modified win over Pete Beeman who was in his ’94 Ranger. David cut an outstanding .506 light and ran an 11.556 at 116.52 mph run on his 11.57 dial to take the double breakout win. Pete's .557 light was too much of a gap to overcome and ran it out to a 12.869 pass on his 12.90 dial-in to settle for the runner-up finish. Terry Holt was the semifinalist.

Street Trophy
The Street Trophy final saw points leader Steve English once again take the win when he defeated Ted Lewis. Steve was off the gas when it became obvious that Ted experienced some issues and lifted to a 13.279 pass on his 13.01 dial for the win. Ted's Monte Carlo slowed to a 14.301 on his 12.64 dial-in to take the runner-up spot. Brad Horton was the lone Semifinalist.

Bike/Sled Trophy
Ron Dean won the Bike/Sled Trophy class today on his ’97 Ski-Doo taking the win over Ryan Orizino and his '96 Cat. Ron gave up the start line advantage to Ryan, .637 to .521, but ran ran closer to his dial-in for a razor-thin .006 margin of victory when Ryan fell off his 6.32 dial with a 6.458 run. Ron's 6.469 at 101.84 mph run on his 6.45 dial was good enough for the win. Carla Kitchen and Jamie Hitchcock were the semifinalists.

Jr. Dragster
We ran one Junior Dragster class today as many of our Juniors were competing in the Divisionals over the weekend and it was a non-point race. Taking advantage of the low pressure track, it was Kimberly Klein taking the win over Jr. Dragster "B" rookie Natalia Musolino in the final. Perhaps Natalia was feeling some pressure as she lined up against Kimberly when she fouled out on the line with her .435 light. Both drivers legged it out to breakout passes. Jenna Lipke and Karli Doig were the semifinalists.

Next Week at ESTA: Saturday 18th - Test 'N Tune; Sunday 19th - Adam's 10.50 Index Race, Super Pro Showdown and a regular Summit Racing E.T. Racing Series event.
