Summit E.T. Racing Series - May 6

Dark Cloud Dampens 2012 E.T. Series Opener

May 6 - We started our 2012 Summit E.T. Points season off today with plenty of sunshine and decent temps. Unfortunately Saturday night we were hit with some terrible news concerning one our Pro MX riders.

“Little Danny,” Dan Cerio was tragically taken away from his family and friends while competing at a Pro Outlaw snowmobile drag race in Martin, Michigan. While there are not enough words that I can write to diminish the impact of this loss on the Cerio family, I just want to let them know that they are in all of our thoughts and Danny will be missed by all of us.

Super Pro
In Super Pro it was Tom Belvick in his ’04 S&W dragster taking care of Scott Forbes who was driving Iggy Falcone’s recently completed ’62 Pontiac Tempest. Tom won with a .555 light and ran a 7.782 at 171.65 mph on his 7.76 dial in. Scott lit the red light with a close .498 bulb and settled for the runner up spot with a 10.476 at 130.01 mph run on his 10.45 dial. Bryan Backus was the semifinalist in his ’82 Cutlass.

Terry Lee drove his Chevy powered ’89 Mustang to the Pro win by stopping Mike LaRose who had to settle for the runner up spot for the second straight week. Both drivers ran under their dial-ins with Terry running a 10.492 at 126.14 mph on his 10.50 dial, while Mike ran a 10.289 at 129.21 mph on his 10.30. Steve Doss and Rob Forbes were the semifinalists.

Pro MX
Shawn Fetter knocked out defending Co-Champ Keith Miller in the Pro MX final round. Shawn had this one wire-to-wire with his .540 initiated 9.108 at 133.48 mph run on his 9.08 prediction. Keith was a bit late with a .635 light and took the runner up spot with an 8.949 at 145.15 mph run on his 8.67 dial. Chrissy Klein and Brian Moulton were the semifinalists.

Street Money

Defending Street Money champ Anthony Zangari worked his way through the field of racers in his '99 Z/28 Camaro to score his first Street Money win of the early season. Anthony had a .546 r.t. and ran an 11.871 at 113.34 mph run on his 11.83 dial to defeat Steve English who was driving his ‘82 Cutlass. Steve had a .554 light, but ran under his 12.88 dial with a 12.844 at 105.12 mph. Matt Bunal was the semifinalist.

In Modified it was Ken Miller in his ’72 Maverick taking the win over a red lighting April Martin who was in her ’76 Dart. Ken had a tardy .648 reaction and ran a 10.717 at 123.28 mph on his 10.75 dial, while April bulbed with a .489 red and ran 10.864 at 121.99 mph on her 10.85 dial. Brett Van Brocklin was the semifinalist.

56stStreet Trophy
Howie Conklin scored the win in Street Trophy when he defeated Ted Lewis who was in his ’86 Chevy. Howie drove his ’65 Chevy to the win with a great .512 light and he ran a 12.973 at 96.76 mph on his 12.99 dial. Ted had a .625 light and ran 12.403 at 102.02 mph on his 12.46 dial. Last year's Trophy champ Dick Aversa was the semifinalist.

Bike/Sled Trophy
Brian Moulton
rode his ’75 Kawasaki to the Bike/Sled Trophy win after Lisa Phelps on her ’98 Arctic Cat fouled out in the final round. Brian had a .562 light and ran a 10.204 at 124.68 mph on his 10.13 dial while, Lisa had a .412 red light and ran a 10.470 at 129.73 mph on her 10.15 dial in. John Kuhfta was the semifinalist.

Jr. Dragster "A"
Jr. Dragster “A” saw last year's Jr. “B” co-champs Ron Klein Jr. and Jacob Snyder square off in the final and Jacob charge to the win. Ron had the better light .540 to .583, but he could not hold on as he ran under his 7.92 dial in with a 7.912 at 82.44 mph allowing Jacob to take the win with a dial in matching 7.908 at 81.97 mph run on his 7.90 dial. Joshua Snyder was the semifinalist.

56jbJr. Dragster "B"
Last week’s Jr. Dragster “B” runner-up Natalia Musolino went one step further this week and scored her first win after stopping Kerstin Harris. Natalia had a great .533 light and ran a 13.113 at 50.17 mph run on her 12.96 dial. Kerstin Harris fouled with a .438 bulb and ran a 9.251 at 60.33 mph on her 9.10 dial.
