Summit E.T. Racing Series - July 3rd

July 3, 2011 -  The 4th of July racing weekend for all of us will always be a tough one because one year ago we lost Chad Wilcox who was fatally injured while making a time run on his high powered snowmobile. We held a special tribute to Chad before we got underway with the racing action and there probably was not a dry eye in the place. Randy SinClair from the RFC gave a heartfelt invocation which was followed by Chrissy Klein making a slow tribute run on her Polaris snowmobile in the same lane that Chad made his last run. After the tribute we got underway, here is the recap.

Steve Doss drove his familiar '85 Monte Carlo to yet another big Pro win today by outlasting a stellar field of competitors and defeating Gene Stankivitz III who was making his first appearance of the year driving his '81 Malibu Wagon. Steve drilled the tree in the final with a stellar .505 and ran a 9.602 at 143.01 mph on his 9.58 dial in. Gene had a very good .532 r.t., but ran under his 10.53 dial in with a 10.457 at 125 29 mph while trying to hold back Steve. Mike LaRose was stopped by Doss in the semifinals.

Super Pro
Wesley Cayea
showed up today with his Chevy powered dragster and went home the winner, stopping Jack Vault who was piloting his Ford powered dragster. The final was strange, Wes was dialed in at 7.64 and Jack had a 7.57 dial, at the green Wes was gone with a .559 reaction, while Jack sat there with some sort of malfunction because he had a 1.029 light. Wes cruised to a 7.71 at 156.26 mph and Jack shut off to a 7.79 at 137.18 mph. Jim Wahl was the semifinalist.

Pro MX
Chrissy Klein drove her '02 Polaris to the emotional Pro MX win by defeating Ron Dean who was riding his '97 Ski-doo. Ron held the r.t. advantage .519 to .587, but ran under his 10.62 dial in with a 10.602 at 113.67 mph which allowed Chrissy's 10.038 at 125.05 mph run on her 10.00 dial to take the win. Shawn Fetter was the semifinalist.

Street Money
Defending Jr. Dragster "A" champ Justin Hardman drove his '98 Firebird to the win in Street Money by defeating Howie Conklin who was driving his '65 Chevy. Howie held a slight starting line advantage .596 to .600, but he ran further under his dial in than Justin.  Justin ran a 13.771 at 99.13 mph on his 13.78, while Howie runner upped with a 13.152 at 102.75 mph on his 13.17 dial. Dave Bates was thew semifinalist.

Steve Luther in his '72 Chevy won the Modified trophy today on a single because his opponent Jay Dana broke and could not make the call. Steve ran an 11.359 at 119.74 mph on his 11.34 dial. Heather Scheirer was the semifinalist in her dragster.

Street Trophy
Howie Conklin was able to take the win in the Street Trophy class when he stopped defending class champ Dick Aversa who was driving his '07 Chevy Trailblazer. Howie used a .541 to .639 reaction time advantage in his favor to win with a 13.189 at 119.74 mph run on his 13.17 dial. Dick ran under his 12.81 dial in with a 12.759 at 105.41 mph runner up effort. Todd Minerd and Larry Zegarelli were the semifinalists.

Bike/Sled Trophy
Pro MX runner up Ron Dean won the Bike / Sled Trophy final by stopping defending class champ Kevin Wuest on his '97 Polaris. Ron ran a 10.683 at 113.57 mph on his 10.67 dial while Kevin settled for the runner up spot with a 10.873 at 114.54 mph run on his 10.81 dial. Ron held a .521 to .557 starting line advantage. Corey Seamans was the semifinalist.

Jr. Dragster "A"
For the second time this year it was an all young lady Jr. Dragster "A" final round with this time Kim Klein going up against Harley Hancock for the title. Kim held the starting line edge .540 to .609 and she won it with a 7.976 at 80.94 mph, right on her 7.97 dial-in. Harley ran under her 7.90 dial with a 7.858 at 80.39 mph runner up effort. Justin Hardman and Shaquille Scott were the semifinalists.

Jr. Dragster "B"
Ron Klein Jr. took the win in the Jr. Dragster "B" final round wheeling his '09 KCS to a .568 initiated, 9.228 at 70.86 mph run on his 9.19 dial in turning back the effort of Casey Bedell. Casey was a bit late with a .729 light and took home the well deserved runner up spot with a 8.985 at 72.25 mph run on his 9.00 dial in. Jenna Lipke and Paige Montgomery were the semifinalists.

In all the years that I have been at ESTA I believe this is the first time that four family members have won on the same day. Ron Klein Jr. in Jr. Dragster "B", Kim Klein in Jr. "A", their mom Chrissy Klein in Pro MX and her father and the kids Grandfather Howie Conklin who won Street Trophy, congrat's to all of them and to Ron Sr. and their friend Wayne who tune all of these racing entries. Take care and we'll see everyone next week.
