Ron & Heath Smith Battle in Pro MX -- Miller Takes Super Pro

The beat goes on here at ESTA as we began the month of August with another great day of drag racing action in the Summit E.T. Points Series.

In Super Pro it was Ken Miller driving his familiar wheel standing ’72 Maverick to the win stopping Tom Belvick in his ’04 Chevy powered S&W dragster. Tom held a slight reaction time advantage .520 to .523 but Ken ran an almost perfect 10.771 at 122.87 mph run on his 10.77 dial in to turn back Tom’s 7.958 at 169.72 mph runner up effort run on his 7.91 dial. Brian Marley was the semifinalist.

Anthony Zangari put his ’99 Z/28 into the Pro winners circle today when he stopped Bob Mayers who was driving his ’27 “T” Roadster. This one was over early when Bob fouled with a .498 red light. Anthony cruised to a shut off 12.99 on his 11.93 dial while Bob ran 9.474 at 139.74 mph on his 9.36 dial. Theodore Lewis was the semifinalist.

In Pro MX it was the Smith & Smith show as Ron Smith defeated his son and recent Pro Sled Shootout champ Heath in the money round. Both riders dialed in at 9.10 and Ron ran 9.322 at 139.02 mph while Heath ran 9.337 at 140.09 mph for the runner up spot. Ron had the r.t. advantage .600 to .641. Kevin Wuest was the semifinalist.

Howie Conklin won in the Street Money Class driving his ’65 Chevy around Todd Minerd’s ’85 S-10. Howie won it with a .601 initiated 12.990 at 103.47 mph run on his 13.00 dial while Todd settled for the runner up spot with a 15.277 at 86.54 mph run on his 15.31 dial in. Steve English and Theodore Lewis were the semifinalists.

In Modified Terry Scheirer drove his fast Dragster to the win and stopping the chance for Ken Miller to double up. Ken had him at the tree .511 to .682 but he ran under his 10.79 dial with a 10.777 at 123.20 mph allowing Terry to win with a less offensive 7.813 at 172.87 mph run on his 7.82 dial. Steve Luther and David Miller were the semifinalists.

Street Trophy action saw Dick Aversa dominate once again scoring another win in his ’07 TrailBlazer SS. Dick had a .668 light and ran 12.788 at 100.20 mph on his 12.73 dial in. John Isgar driving his beautiful ’36 Ford had a .795 light and ran under his 15.29 dial in with a 15.235 at 85.35 mph settling for the runner up spot. Pat Kelly was the semifinalist.

In Bike / Sled Trophy action it was Jim Cosimeno taking the win on his ’03 Arctic Cat defeating Dan Dunn who was on his ’91 Bike. In a double breakout race Jim ran 11.052 at 113.34 mph on his 11.09 dial with a .790 r.t. while Dan ran further under with a 11.429 at 120.61 mph run on his 11.48 dial with a .758 r.t. Nick Washburn and Keith Miller were the semifinalists.

Taylor Duell wheeled her ’05 Bos Jr. Dragster to the win in the “A” class defeating a red lighting Carter Helch who was in his ’05 Halfscale. Taylor had a.537 light and ran 8.006 at 81.07 mph on her 7.97 dial in. Carter bulbed with a .492 red and ran 7.993 at 80.79 mph run on his 7.96 dial. Justin Hardman was the semifinalist.

In Jr. Dragster “B’ it was two of the classes youngest drivers going for the win when Jenna Lipke took on Shane Bingel who was in only his second week of racing action. Shane held a slight r.t. advantage .713 to .747 but he ran under his 12.92 dial in with a 12.906 at 49.40 mph runner up pass. Jenna won it with a great 13.192 at 48.66 mph run on her 13.18 dial in. Colin Forbes and Shannon Harrison were the semifinalists.
